Sugar Cookie Recipe

This easy sugar cookie recipe is sure to be a hit with friends and family. These cookies are delicate, and therefore are not recommended for shipping or if using cookie cutters with elaborate shapes.

These cookies will freeze well and keep up to three months. When ready to use, thaw the dough in the refrigerator until it's just soft enough to use.

Or as an alternative, if you are not cutting shapes, simply slice off a 1 ounce and bake as usual.


  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup butter - Room Temperature
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 2 Large Egg
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla


Combine sugar and butter in large bowl; beat with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and eggs; blend well. Add flour; mix well. Cover with plastic wrap; refrigerate at least 1 hour for easier handling.

Pre-heat oven to 350°F. Roll dough on lightly floured surface to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut with 2 1/2-inch round or shaped cutter. Place 1-inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets. Cool 10 minutes or until completely cooled. Decorate as desired.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. On a lightly-floured surface, roll out dough to a thickness of 1/4-inch (click here for an easy trick for rolling sugar cookie dough without sticking)>. Cut dough into desired shapes, and place on ungreased cookie sheets (compare prices).

Bake chocolate sugar cookies for 10-14 minutes. Let cool completely, and decorate as desired.
